Uist & Barra secured their first win in the Inter Island Tournament for over 14 years with an emphatic 4-0 win over Glasgow Island in the final after beating Skye 2-1 in the semi-final. Hector MacPhee was the final hero with all 4 goals, with David ‘Ginge’ MacInnes and young Barra lad Craig Ferguson scoring the goals against Skye. Although MacPhee’s goals and overall performance were excellent so were the rest of his team mates, with not one failure on a day where the Uist lads were far too good for their opponents. In the other games Glasgow Island beat Lewis & Harris 1-0 and then in the 3/4th place game between Skye & Lewis it finished 1-1 with Skye beating the Lewis lads on penalties.

Celebrations as you can imagine lasted well into the night and the weekend and no one at all can grudge the Uist & Barra Select this well deserved accolade – the best team won on the day!

Congratulations to Manager  Martin ‘Cherry’ MacAulay, Assistant Manager John Alex Skinner and the Management Committee of Willie MacAulay and Iain ‘Donyards’ MacDonald.

Hector MacPhee also won the Player of the Tournament to crown a memorable Tournament and Uist & Barra will now look at holding onto their title in Stornoway next year.

Well done lads.
